Helena Moniz is President of the European Association for Machine Translation (since 2021) and the International Association for Machine Translation (since 2023). She is an Assistant Professor at the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, where she teaches Computational Linguistics, Computer-Assisted Translation, and Machine Translation Systems. Since 2000, she has been a researcher at INESC-ID, contributing to numerous national and international projects in the fields of Linguistics, Translation, and Artificial Intelligence. Since 2015, she has collaborated with Unbabel, leading the development of scalable Linguistic Quality Assurance processes for AI-powered translation systems combining artificial intelligence and human post-editing. She currently focuses her research on Language Technologies, Translation, and Artificial Intelligence. Helena also serves as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Center for Responsible AI, under Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, promoting the development of responsible, ethical, and human-centred AI solutions.
